End-of-war dates are less remembered than starting-of-war dates. They shouldn't be, but they are. They end more gradually than they start.
Never argue with people who type fast and have too much time on their hands...

But exhaustion IS how most wars end. Either one side wins because the other has run out of soldiers or resources, or domestic political problems arise.
