Happy rebirthday? Why these Canadians chose a new date to celebrate themselves

When I first came across this article today, my 1st reaction was it seems kind of silly, but then after a bit of thought I realized that I actually sort of do this. My birthday is Remembrance Day, and since I was about 12yrs old I would celebrate my birthday either on Nov 10th or Nov 12th, because it felt inappropriate to to celebrate on the 11th.

Now in the article there's one person that changed their birthday to August from January, cause they wanted to, that seems a bit silly, but who am I to judge?

But if you're someone who has maybe gone through some literally life changing event like beating cancer or maybe like in the article a trans woman celebrating the milestone of her transition, I think that makes sense.

If you could change your birthday would you? Why?

For me, other then celebrating a day adjacent, I wouldn't change it, even though, it is usually a sombre, cloudy, and damp with about a 50/50 chance it'll rain kind of day, that just seems appropriate.

Can I make mine February 30th? That's the date I give the annoying people that want to celebrate it. 

I've known a couple of people who feel gypped sharing it with jesus (my sister) or the turkey. Not a single one who's date falls on national blow shit up day.

My mother’s birthday used to fall on Columbus Day…which she loved as she worked in a school that took that day off. She was upset when it got changed to a Monday holiday as it rarely fell on the 12th anymore.

My birthday is fine. Middle of summer and hot so we usually had either a pool part at the neighborhood pool or a movie theater to stay cool. AC was hit or miss in those days in Florida! No one I know shares my birthday. The closest is my granddaughter who’s birthday is three days after mine and she’s young and I’m old so we don’t clash with plans.

Yeah my birthday was a holiday too until in grade 6 they changed it to a half day for businesses and all day school days because people weren't engaging in the meaning of the day. That was a really good idea too, because I myself didn't understand it's importance up until then, all I knew is that it was always a holiday on my birthday.

date format of MDY, unlike most of the rest of the world's
more logical DMY format.

Can anybody tell me with absolute certainty what this US
date 3/5/26 or 8/1/26 means in terms of the calendar?  Is
it May or March?     Or August or January?   

Bearing in mind that some US-based international companies,
scientific organisations, or multinational workplaces can use the
DMY format—which leads to all sorts of confusion.

The only other countries that use the MDY format are Greenland,
the Cayman Islands, the Philippines, Puerto Rico, Togo, Ghana,
Kenya, and French-speaking Canada.

And here in Ontario, in between it all it seems, some things are metric some are imperial, and where our driver's licenses are YMD but our vehicle registrations are DMY & our vehicle purchase agreements, and most any invoices I get are MDY. 

We're a bit of mess.
