'Tremendous shortage': Border Patrol shrunk drastically during Trump's first term

WASHINGTON – President-elect Donald Trump has promised to hire 10,000 more Border Patrol agents as part of a crackdown on immigration. That may be a tall order.


Days after taking office in 2017, Trump ordered the Border Patrol to add 5,000 agents. By the time he left four years later, the Border Patrol had actually shrunk by 1,084 agents, records from Customs and Border Protection show.
Current staffing is nearly 3,000 below the target set last year by Congress.
“Despite promises to recruit more Border Patrol agents, the reality is that over the last several administrations, the Border Patrol has struggled to recruit, train and maintain agents,” said Colleen Putzel-Kavanaugh, associate policy analyst at the nonpartisan Migration Policy Institute.

The really bad news is that it has little to do with who is president.  The fact is, it is a shitty job, in generally shitty locations, and after they go through training in one year they can apply to any other federal law enforcement agency all of whom seem to be understaffed.

Georgia officials have dissolved a committee responsible for investigating deaths of pregnant women in the state, after one or more members leaked confidential information about deaths linked to the state's strict abortion laws.
In a letter sent to members of the Maternal Mortality Review Committee (MMRC), Georgia health commissioner Kathleen Toomey said an investigation failed to identify those responsible for the leak, so all current members would be removed.
The news - first reported by ProPublica - comes two months after the outlet published stories on the deaths of two women the panel ruled were preventable and linked to the state's strict abortion ban.
The women's stories became a rallying call for reproductive rights advocates and was cited often by Democrats during the US election.

The Trump/MAGA response to information they don't like is to just hide it. That way (to them) it goes away, ceases to exist, etc.

I view the world in 2 ways. Part of us pay attention to facts and the other part sticks their fingers in their ears until they don't hear the facts anymore. They might even wear earplugs all day long until they see Trump on TV and pull them out briefly.

My elderly Dad was dedicated to Fox News. He was suffering from normal old age dementia (which wasn't the cause of his dementia but a symptom of it). He always was a bit ultra-conservative (in spite of being science-oriented). I never quite understood that.

Correlations I see are that 76% of Georgians are Christian
with only 18% as non-affiliated ("nones") and Governor
Kemp being a Republican and a practicing Catholic.
