This is total bullshit, and indicates to me (from an
admittedly long distance) that this sort of thing is
typical of the end of true American democracy.

Trump is not the sitting president.  Currently he's a
common citizen with no more powers than any other
American citizen.  And of course, Biden is the sitting
president until 20 January.

So... exactly what distortion of the US judicial process is
occurring here?  Is the DoJ just making stuff up on the trot?
Whose palms have been (figuratively) greased?

There is no way our legal system would be able to get him into court, tried, convicted, and sentenced before Jan. 20th. Even if it could, and they locked his oh, so deserving ass up, the calendar would still make him president on Jan. 20th, and he'd simply pardon himself.

Jack Smith has known this for a long time. I can't be arsed but I'm sure this or something like it: 'Don't fight battles you can't win', means something in legal Latineze speak. But aye, he knew he was fucked.

Then so are we.

As I suggested earlier, is there any possible legal way to prevent the bastard from taking office?

Convince enough electors to cast faithless ballots in January. Perfectly legal, and the desired outcome in a situation like this according to many of our founding fathers.

Thank you I was unaware of that. Without looking to deeply into it it sounds similar to our No confidence motion

Quote:In the United Kingdom, confidence motions are a means of testing the support of the government (executive) in a legislative body, and for the legislature to remove the government from office.

Not quite the same. Electors are sent to Washington as the result of the general election. When you hear the term "electoral votes," that's what they're talking about. It's the automatic, pro-forma process the Jan. 6 insurrectionists were trying to stop. Faithless electors have never changed the outcome of an election, and I expect them to be in full lock-step for this one, regardless of the evidence of his incompetence. They haven't the sack to uphold the founder's wishes and prevent an unfit candidate from becoming president. If they did, Hillary would have been sworn in on January 20th, 2017 instead of the mango malignancy.

The new key to the White House
The barrel of shit that's being scraped to find these people must be as deep as a canyon:

Quote:Donald Trump’s selection of the far-right commentator Sebastian Gorka for a senior national security post has prompted outrage and ridicule over a pick that seems extreme even amid a stream of nominations of conspiracy theorists, alleged sex traffickers, TV hosts and repeaters of Russian state propaganda.
Current Trump advisers were reportedly horrified. An unnamed “person close to [Trump’s] national security team” told the Washington Post: “Almost universally, the entire team considers Gorka a clown. They are dreading working with him.” Link

So what's next from the book of, you can't be fucking serious!

Alex Jones for press secretary?

Harvey Weinstein pardoned and tasked with overseeing the film industry?

Or Sideshow Bob...

The new key to the White House
In January 2018, BuzzFeed News and Hungarian website 444.hu
reported that Hungarian police had issued an arrest warrant for
Gorka for "firearm or ammunition abuse" in September  2016.

They noted that the warrant had been in effect for the entire period
of Gorka's service at the White House
during the Trump administration,
and that the warrant remained in effect as of January 2018.

(Trump was furious after BuzzFeed published an
unverified and salacious 35-page report in 2017
claiming to show connections between Trump and
Russia, calling BuzzFeed a “leftwing blog” and a
“failing pile of garbage”.)
