There's nothing new here it's the same trend we're seeing everywhere. But it's nice to gloat.

Quote:The Church of Scotland, once one of the most powerful forces in Scottish life, is disposing of hundreds of churches, manses, halls and cottages over the next five years as it faces up to a “perilous” transformation in its fortunes and its place in Scottish society.

A “perilous” transformation in its fortunes. Big Grin

Quote:The Catholic church declined to discuss its situation but the crisis has led some to think the unthinkable. Lynne McNeil, editor of the Church of Scotland’s in-house magazine Life and Work, suggests in her latest editorial it could share churches with Catholics and Episcopalians. “In times of trial and challenge for many churches, minds need to be open to embrace new ways of being and working,” she said.

The thought of having to share a church with Proddies will have the Catholics break out in boils.

I hope the buildings themselves will be preserved. Their patrimonial value is often very high. It would also be a shame to lose completely their public vocation and transformed them all in lodging for example (though this is certainly also an option for many).

I’m not up to date on Scotland’s situations but, do they have a homeless crisis? Many churches can be adapted into housing and I rather that happened that just turning them into bars. If there isn’t a housing concern, then churches becoming bars makes me happy.

In Wales many old derelict churches have been sold on and repurposed for useful things like housing and community centers.
There are plenty more though that cost a fortune in upkeep in spite of minimal use.

Good can come from the church cutting it's losses and passing land and property over for worthwhile use.

Giving back what the church borrowed, begged for and stole from the people's ancestors? Unheard of!  Big Grin

...and whorehouses.  That would be in keeping with what they do now...screw people.

What was harmless polytheism and mostly regional belief became a part of the machine that is Christianity...

An undeserved thankyou to the invaders that ruined a beautiful part of the planet with their armies and nonsense.

All the edifices built for the xtian faith were what I meant. I wasn't clear about that. I wonder how many structures of the older religion(s) remain standing.

There are burial chambers that predate the pyramids.
I visited one in Pembrokeshire.. Don't ask me to spell the name of it though.

I’m sure the Church destroyed any pagan worship sites. Hell, didn’t they burn the Druid groves? Removing the competition has always been a Church goal. They likely didn’t care about burial spots otherwise they would’ve removed those, too.

Stonehenge is still standing along with many ancient sites of worship in the UK.

It'll still be standing long after York minster and st Paul's cathedral are demolished.
