Skiathos
That's like the approach to Logan when the winds are out of the west. I thought we'd be swimming to shore.
Landing a passenger jet in one mile, they certainly needed every inch they could scrape up.
On hiatus.

Skiathos
I'm not sure if this is the same airport but in this video you can see all the black skid marks at 1:02 and around 1:07 in the video. The airplane barely clears the fence.
I've been not there, but St. Maarten, a Caribbean nation within the Dutch kingdom (sharing an island with a French collectivity). Similarly dangerous approach. There was one recent falality of a beach bum that was blown over by the jetwash of a departing plane.
Is this sig thing on?

Holy shit I remember well an early trip to Boston, £53 return Pan Am. I was accompanied by a young lady I had designs on but she knew this and never lost an opportunity to tease and torture. Payback time wench. Down we glided with engines throttling back and more flaps being shoved out and her head clagged to the window looking for a sign of land. The approach to Logan that morning couldn't have been better, perfect visibility for an anxious first time flyer listening to the announcement we are about to land, but could see nothing but sea in all directions. The 747 wing was now full flap and from our POV covered half the sky and all of the coastline of Boston Massachusetts which was now only a few hundred feet away. She didn't know that. When the engines sighed their last peeeooo... and blokes smoking Marlborough were waving from fishing boats, mocking her, she knew she was going to die.
None of my famy have a passport. We haven't been abroad for years.
After another disappointing trip to North Wales though, we might have to bite the bullet and get real. My wife fancies going to Greece or Italy, I want to go to Norway. There's no way in hell that I could be a passanger in one of these vidios in this thread. It really gives me the whim-whams.* *Whim-wham is a phrase my Canadian mother used to say.
Now that my wife and I are retired, and we have some shiny chewing gum wrappers to rub together, she wants to travel. Honestly, if I'm to have my pocket picked, I'd rather that it happened at home, where I have some recourse.
If you get to thinking you’re a person of some influence, try ordering somebody else’s dog around.
