Elementary school. Great, but I'm sure, the good guy with a gun would have handled it just fine.
I wonder when America will wake up.

Fuck.
Gun nuts don't care. Three hundred children could be shot dead in a school massacre and they would still scream about their constitutional rights to own a gun. There is no number of dead children that will alter their position. The Republicans, those smug pro-life advocates in Texas where this happened, will not give two shits about this. "It's my Constitutional right to own a gun." Pro- life my ass!

From the original article.
Quote:“President Biden has been briefed on the horrific news of the elementary school shooting in Texas and will continue to be briefed regularly as information becomes available. His prayers are with the families impacted by this awful event,” she said. I'm sure, that'll help. Unbelievable. Make gun access easy to any nutter and pray over the bodies afterwards. The day is not far away that the first trifecta will happen: 6 dead in a shooting in Connecticut, 3 dead in a shooting in Louisiana, 8 dead in a shooting in Los Angeles, all happening in the space of 7 hours. None of it will get top news billing because Kardashian will have just had her butt surgically trimmed and all the world needs to know about it.

I suppose the problem is that Texass just needs more guns!
The first revolt is against the supreme tyranny of theology, of the phantom of God. As long as we have a master in heaven, we will be slaves on earth.

The Latest Mass Shooting
I'm lurking on Twitter. One of the deceased teachers was in special ed. So, it's following that the children lost are assumed by some to be special ed students. I wonder if this aspect of this event is going to amount to anything. I'm reminded of the Sagamihara stabbings.

It's so scary, people would rather hold onto an amendment from 1789 rather than adapt to make a better future for our kids because they have this crazy idea that the government is out to get them and they need their guns to protect themselves. Makes me want to move to a different country.
It's their fucking guns they want to hang onto.

I'm literally just crying right now. How can we let this happen over and over and over? All those "think of the children" assholes when it comes to abortion just continually let little kids get murdered all the time and refuse to do a goddamned thing to fix it. I'm crying AND angry. This will never change, I fell Sandy Hook was the pivot point, and what do we get, conspiracies that it's a hoax. There is nothing more disgusting.
Those poor families, lives ruined, hardships I can't even imagine to overcome now. I'd rather have to fight cancer for the rest of my life than lose my daughter, I'd rather suffer anything than that. Tragedy isn't even the right word, we need to invent a new one to express the depth and breadth of sheer stubborn stupidity that allows to happen to our most helpless and cherished little citizens over and over (not that I'm discounting adults, every shooting death is a preventable loss). On a totally personal note, I expect my already nervous teen to come home from school and refuse to finish the school year tomorrow. There are kids she calls "trumpies" who are routinely violent and threatening to other kids, particularly the LGBTQ kids, of which my daughter is a part. What am I supposed to say, it's fine, you are most likely safe? I'll contact the school counselor in the morning and alert her that my kid is going to need some help once she hears about this. And then there is the fear every day that I AM possibly sending her into some deadly situation, all the while assuring her it's fine. My insides feel twisted into knots.
Looking at gun statistics in the us, this massacre was long overdue.
Yes it's cynical, but it's true as well. Should be renamed from "land of the free" to " land of gun massacres"

I just don't know what to say any more.
<insert important thought here>
Every country has nutcases, it is clear as day that the US has a gun problem.
Yet, I saw on the news here, a republican senator claiming the democrats are politicizing the incident.
I've just woken up this afternoon to read of this absolute tragedy.
I'm extremely angry, saddened, horrified and close to tears as I write this. This year to date, there have been: 7, 625 FIREARM HOMICIDES AND 213 MASS SHOOTINGS WITH 647 CHILD VICTIMS IN THE USA. Need I say more? The US Second Amendment must be itself amended. — End of story.
I'm a creationist... I believe that man created God.

After Dunblane and Port Arthur, the same year, by the way, both countries cracked down on gun possession. And after that point in time, nothing, nada, zilch. Not a single mass shooting. I know, it's not that easy in America, since it's in the constitution, but the constitution has been amended before. For much stupider reasons, such as the prohibition. In the meantime, Biden at least vocally attacks the gun lobby. It won't change anything, of course, since the NRA and GOP representatives will gather in force to fight for 2nd amendment rights. Quote:President Biden on Tuesday implored Congress to “stand up to the gun lobby” and pass firearm restrictions after a gunman shot and killed at least 19 young children at a Texas elementary school. https://thehill.com/news/administration/...gun-lobby/
Just watched Kerr on YT. More power to him!!

Also, the lobby is too strong. And the right of everyone packing is too deeply ingrained to be changed overnight. The GOP would never stand for it, because they're in the pocket of the NRA, the weapon's manufacturers and the yahoos, collecting an arsenal of guns. Following Biden's speech on cracking down on the gun lobby, I can already envision the GOP reaction of Democrats taking the liberties from the people. |
