An online sale of a single pixel, as a part of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) by the digital artist [sic ] Pak,
sold for US$1.36 million (A$1.76 million) at auction house Sotheby's. A non-fungible token is a
form of blockchain-based digital asset that has exploded in popularity in 2021, with prices soaring
as collectors and enthusiasts rush to buy the items, which only exist in digital form.
This NFT called "The Pixel" —an image of a single pixel, was also up for auction, fetching A$1.76 million
after a 90-minute bidding battle. The pixel was a part of a total of US$16.8 million (A$21.8 million) digital
"art" sale, the auction house said on Wednesday.
Last month, an NFT "artwork" sold for US$69.3 million (A$89.8 million) at Christie's, in the first sale ever
by a major auction house of a piece of art that does not exist in physical form.
And check out this load of absolute bullshit...
Max Moore, contemporary art specialist at Sotheby's, said the sale was targeted towards "crypto-native"
collectors. "These new crypto investors have a very different aesthetic and a very different taste profile
than a traditional collector would and so it's important to provide a mix and a range of collectibles at Sotheby's
to attract a wide variety of audience," he said.
—Their "different" aesthetic is simply that they don't have one LOL. And their... uh... "taste" is apparently
sourced from their anal sphincters.
Meanwhile today in sub-Saharan Africa, another 15,000 children under the age of 5 years have died due to
a lack of potable drinking water and cheap antibiotics.
