Insurance fraud neighbor
So I have a neighbor who a few months ago was being investigated by an insurance company for fraud.  They hid behind some of our hedges to photograph him working around his yard. Supposedly he has a bad back and is unable to work.  When I saw the guy with the camera I thought it was odd but maybe he was a real estate guy photographing the house from odd angles or something, so he could put it up for sale.   About a week after that I was raking my lawn and the neighbor came over and asked me if he saw anyone spying on him.  I said I wasn't sure.  He then told me about an insurance company trying to get him for insurance fraud and was he was furious.

A couple month after that he tells me the insurance company backed down and he's getting workmens compensation or something like that.

So here I am typing and as I'm hitting the keyboard I'm looking out the window watching this guy cut up his tree that fell over on his truck from the ice storm.  He's using a big ol chainsaw and hauling big limbs around the size of a tree trunk.  It was a big tree. He doesn't seem to be having the slightest problem with his back.  He's not wincing or struggling.  A few weeks ago I saw him fixing his engine and pulling the battery out and other heavy engine crap.

Bad back, my ass!

Take pictures. Tell him you want half, or you'll turn over the evidence to the proper authorities.

One last thing, this neighbor is a trump supporter.  I'm sure there are Democrats who have tried to pull one over on insurance companies, but damn, maybe if there were more social programs to help people, national health insurance and other social safety nets then maybe there wouldn't be this kind of insurance fraud going on.  My understanding is that we all pay for this kind of fraud with higher premiums.

This will generally be true.  Almost every tough guy firefighter type I know has "back problems" and is on some form of disability.

Not only is he a trump supporter but he's also a Mormon.  He's a strange kind of Mormon though.  He's and his kids are always walking down to the nearby Seven-Eleven and buying Coke and other caffeine drinks.  Mormon in name only, I guess.

This is a crime in all 50 states.

https://www.criminaldefenselawyer.com/cr...-Fraud.htm

Quote:What is Insurance Fraud?
Insurance fraud occurs when people deceive an insurance company in order to collect money to which they are not entitled. This particular fraud is a crime in all fifty states, and the majority of the states have established fraud bureaus to identify and investigate fraud incidents. In most states, fraudulent claims can be either a felony or a misdemeanor, depending on the nature and extent of the fraud committed. Certain types of fraud, such as health care fraud, are also crimes under federal law.
Insurance companies can also commit fraud by improperly denying a policy holder or health care provider a benefit that is due. To learn more about his topic, see When Your Insurance Company Won't Cover You: Fraud and Bad Faith.
Fraudulent insurance claims affect society as a whole, not just insurance companies, and for that reason, it is punished harshly. According to the Coalition Against Insurance Fraud, fraud schemes steal at least 80 billion dollars per year in the United States. The costs are ultimately borne by policyholders and consumers, because insurance companies charge higher premiums to cover their losses from fraud. Individual and business premium rates go up, and businesses often pass along the increased costs to their consumers.

It is not a victimless crime.
