Follow the timelines in the article. Omichron has just started, we know what happens because we saw it with Delta. On your side of the argument, because Omichron is so rampant, while we will have many more people die because of the lack of vaccination, their own or that of others, eventually most people will have been exposed to Omichron and have some timed immunity against it. Later we will probably see the next strain...
