Coronavirus spreads. But don't panic! (topical thread)

The influenza virus has been with our species for likely millennia but has never instilled as much fear and hatred as much as the coronavirus.
These are two different viruses altogether.

Coronavirii, especially C-19, seem to mutate more quickly than influenza strains. But the fact that flu has been around for so long might indicate that it has simply settled down into a stable parasite/host relationship, while Covid is still so new it hasn't had time to do so. That could explain why more vaccinations are needed for Covid as opposed to influenza.

I'm no virologist, so apply salt as needed.

That's interesting, I've not heard that. I know that all viruses replicate but I don't know about mutation rates.
