Founder of Biontech expects need for adaptation of vaccines to Omicron. Current vaccines will still protect from severe cases of COVID, however. He is surprised by the speed (and scope) of mutation in case of Omicron. He expected such a variant not before next year. Its not a question if but when we need adapted vaccines for variants like Omicron he said.
Months ago Biontech (in collaboration with Pfitzer) already has prepared everything to be able to produce adapted vaccines. They will be able to adapt their vaccine within 6 weeks and will be able to deliver within 100 days. They are preparing a standard procedure how to adapt vaccines. First clinical stuies have been started to test the efficiency of variant specific vaccines. These studies could be used as sample data later on, in order to shorten approvals.

Meanwhile in Vienna: 40.000 protesters against lockdown, while infection rates are still in the 1/1000 per day ballpark (coming down from 1,5/1000)

Is it me or does this whole pandemic start to sound like the script of a movie?
