Well, between my 20s and my 40s the docs I mainly saw were Planned Parenthood staff. There were no "wellness" programs then, and yearly checkups were not done either for the average healthy young adult. I didn't have a personal doctor. The couple of times I had to see someone (injured knee, an infection) I just presented at the hospital. I had no relationships with any doctor.
That may have been, and might still be, the norm, but that's not a good thing IMO. Having a primary care physician and at least a yearly physical (with blood work) is the best way to go as a start. There's so much undiagnosed everything - from cancer to diabetes and everything between - that it's worth staying informed and on top of things.
