2020 Covid numbers in the US ended on a high note, and NOT in a good way.
Yesterday's deaths were 3,880, which AFAIK is a new record. Today was 3,438. I started tracking numbers daily the week before Thanksgiving. The 7 day average deaths/day then was 1,646 vs 2,691 the week before Christmas, Average new cases/day back then were 175,778, and the week before Christmas at 215,493. That represents a 63% increase in deaths and a 23% increase in new cases over that period. Not sure why those two numbers aren't tracking a little closer with each other than that. Probably a combination of things. For one thing, it's no help when so many hospitals are beyond capacity; we heard of one hospital commandeering its gift shop to put patient beds in.
We have battened down the hatches here and are literally not leaving the house anymore even for exercise or groceries. Keep safe, everyone, and I hope you're seeing the new year in, in person, only with those who have been sheltering with you to begin with.
