But Pelosi and Schumer are putting a Democratic approval on Trump's suggestions, thereby indirectly validating his self-recusal. They're supporting his argument knowing full-well that the Republicans in the Senate will not go along. They're arguing for the perfect against the good, the way I see it.

I agree with @Dānu's reading of events, if I am indeed reading her right.

He didn't veto it. He "just made a suggestion". It will die if he doesn't come back to sign it. He will blame the repubs. He is mad at them because they didn't help enough to challenge the election.

What he's suggesting is a pocket-veto. There's no reason the Dems should encourage this, the way I see it. Renegotiating on his basis when everyone and their grandmother knows the Republican Senate won't pass it only gives him cover.

Trump is trying to throw a spanner into the works. He should have to own that behavior. Congressional Democrats should not give him breathing room on the matter.

With Pelosi and Schumer pushing this, it gives credence to his ploy, even though they know it cannot pass the Senate.

IMO he purposefully said what the dems have been saying all along. He is aiming to take revenge on the GOP.
