Biontech is confident to be able to monthly produce 60mio doses of its vaccine in its facilitiy in Marburg (purchased from Novartis, by the way). Production plant needs only "slight modifications". The actual production takes about one week, quality control and release will take another 3 weeks.
Cooling (to -70c) should not be a major issue, since the vaccine will be adminstered at vaccination centers, not at your local doc. Dry ice is also availiable quite easily. Biontech is already working on vaccines that can be stored much easier.
My understanding is that the Biontech vaccine can be kept cool in a regular ol' refrigerater but is only 70% effective. The Pfiser vaccine is 90% effective and needs to be kept in a dry ice situation or much colder than a freezer (I think that's what I read) and the Monderna is 95% effective but needs to be kept in a regular freezer.
Biontech=Pfitzer
Yes, i have read as well that the Biontech/Pfitzer vaccine wont get totally useless when not stored at -70C. It just decays within a few days. So given fast and "just in time" transportation which leads to pretty much imminent administration, this is even less of a problem.
