Was clicking around the web for my great-grandfather's info and was surprised to find a contemporaneous obituary. (He was born in Italy and I might be able to claim Italian citizenship as his descendant.)

Now I think he may have been a victim of the Influenza Pandemic of 1918-19. He died in France for the Americans in World War I.

"The funeral of Private (name), son of Mrs. (name) of 146 Hamilto Ave, who died in France of pneumonia October 22, 1918, will be conducted with mlitary honors tomorrow morning at 9 o'clock form the home of his mother. The young man entered the Army May 28, 1918. He was sent to Camp Dix to train, and later sent to Camp Johnson and Camp Hill. "

The pandemic was raging when he died. The hairs on the back of my neck raised after I read that. I wonder what he would make of what his descendants are going through a century later.
