It's my view that nearly all of the opening up is premature and driven by the concerns of commerce rather than public health and welfare. But in a weird way it is almost necessary since we can't as a nation bring ourselves to direct help where it's needed for public good in order to have a sustained shelter in place.
In my walk today I would say fully half the people I passed weren't wearing masks or particularly trying to maintain social distance, even outdoors where it's easy, and even when it's a state requirement here and now that it's no problem to obtain masks locally. So that's another layered problem -- we're not even getting the full benefit from social distancing when it's theoretically in force.
