If a plane is flying regularly, how is it retired?
Also, I'd be willing to bet that older airframes are more expensive to maintain, meaning this dog-and-pony show is costing more than it has to.
It's retired from combat or whatever it's old job was.
I think you are looking at it from a different angle is all, and you are likely the one using the proper terminology.
I am retired too, but I am still flying (sometimes anyway )
