Incredibly, I just read a social media post by an educated friend similar to this (except for the "totally fake" part). This friend said it's the flu (never mind that this is a novel virus and you can get vaccinated for the flu) and it's only really impacting the elderly. They also work at a large hospital here that has a patient on a respirator who contracted the virus.
