I know. I don't see people dropping dead in huge numbers. Some have died, sure, but it's nowhere near the 18,000 people who have died from the flu this year. People need to get a grip.
That's silly. 26 million people have had the flu this season (not this year), to get to that number.
Only 88 thousand roughly have this new virus, and almost none in the US.
Apples and oranges. We've no idea what this will look like in 3 months, 6 months, or a year. To down play it, particularly when there are vulnerable populations of elderly and those with preexisting conditions that put them at higher risk, is as irresponsible as overpaying it would be.
Take the middle road. Be cautious depending on your own particular circstamce, take precautions, but don't go buy 1k in some and wipe out whole grocery stores and useless facemasks that would be best used by hospitals and the infected.
There's a responsible way to handle this.
