Rocks and crystals
There are truly some beautiful rocks out there... not just the classic diamonds, rubys and saphires.
Once in a while I get an astonishing specimen on my facebook feed and I'd like to share that with everyone.
Today, we have a "Group of perfectly formed and very lustrous cubic crystals, of a dark purple color on the surface and amber on the inside."
Fluorite - mim 1439 - USA
Denton Mine, Rosiclare level, Harris Creek, Hardin County, Illinois
CaF2
Previous collection: Ross C. Lillie (USA)
Largest crystal: 5.7 cm
Dimensions: 12.0 x 15.5 x 6.0 cm
Rhodochrosite, Quartz and Tetrahedrite - Main Stope Drift, Sweet Home Mine, Alma, Park County, Colorado.
Stunning Quartz with Rutile.
Amazing Vanadinite, Midelt, Draa Tafilalet region Morocco.

These are Australian Black Opals, SiO 2·nH 2O (technically a hydrated amorphous form of silica).
Opals are classed as a mineraloids, because of their amorphous character—as they contain on
average 6% to 10% water by weight. Opal is Australia's national gemstone, and is mined at
Lightning Ridge in Queensland. This town is the only place on earth that produces these precious
Black Opals.
These stones could each be valued at between (say) $5,000 and $30,000. Large
specimens could be around 1-inch long, with smaller ones less than ¼-inch long.

My favourite gemstone. If I were a multi millionaire I would collect them, IMHO diamonds don't have shit on opals, absolutely no contest.

Mookaite Jasper is a crystal with marbled earth tones which gets its name from the Mooka Creek near the Kennedy Ranges in Western Australia where it can be found. The word “Mookaite” comes from the Aboriginal word for the creek where it is found, which means “running waters.” First mined in the 1960s, Mookaite Jasper has since been discovered to house the remnants of radiolaria, tiny creatures that have opaline silica in their skeletons.

Drusy – Bright Green Oval Cabochon....Drusy, druse, druzy, drusies - different spellings, but they all mean tiny quartz crystals that form within or on the surface of other stones...
When ground water carrying dissolved silica is forced into a porous area of the rock, rapid cooling often occurs, causing the formation of tiny crystals on the surfaces or in cavities of the rock. The clear crystals often form on top of previously deposited minerals. This is called a drusy. Some minerals found in this form are chrysocolla, malachite, hematite, psilomelane, uvarovite, pyrite, carnelian and cobalto-calcite.
Drusy Gem Quartz
Dyed Quartz Druzy
and some others awesome crystals..

Morganite with Cleavelandite on Microcline - Dara-i-Pech Pegmatite Field, Afghanistan
Creedite is a calcium aluminium sulfate fluoro hydroxide mineral
..and of course green beryllium crystal...-Emerald is a gemstone and a variety of the mineral beryl (Be3Al2(SiO3)6) colored green by trace amounts of chromium and sometimes vanadium

Rocks and crystals
I love rock shows. There's a rock show every year over at the gym at the community college just down the street. I've gone almost every year. I've bought various kinds of rocks and hand made jewelry at super cheap prices. I bought a beautiful amethyst necklace for 30 bucks in the last few hours of the last day of the rock show when the vendors are more willing to haggle. It's their last chance to make some money.

My mom is always asking me, "What do you people talk about on that website you're always visiting?" She thinks the only topics are religion and anti-church discussions. I'm going to Email her the URL for this thread.
