To be fair, the French police has a well deserved reputation for abject brutality and often serious incompetence. Rare are the police forces of democratic countries that were responsible for outright massacres of the population they were supposed to protect and serve post WWII and yet France and specifically the police of Paris belong to that select club; that's what happen when a Nazi collaborator and former chief of police during the Algerian war of independence gets to lead your police force for over 20 years.
My knowledge about French police ends on the fact that it exists. The point I was trying to make however was that issues don't have a single cause.
