They think they can do anything they want.

They do.  Well, at least they mostly get away with it.  Even when smartphone recorded, they get away with a lot.  I don't understand how, but they do.   It angers me.

When the few are brought to trial, they usually seem to get off.  Yes some are convicted, but it seems to me that the convictions don't matter.

I respect and support the police in general.  But some of them seem to think they are James Bond (liscensed to kill).  And I object to that.   They have to stop shooting people "because they fear he has a gun".  They have to stop shooting kids playing (truly) toy guns.  They have to stop killing people at traffic stops (or he says "yes there is a gun in the car").  Some guns are legal to own.  Or it is a call about a mental issue.  They have to stop shooting people who are just having an "episode".

Police training has to change.  I'm not saying it is an easy job.  But understanding the difference between a guy selling single cigarettes or a kid with a toy gun or a guy holding a cellphone when told to raise his arms is something that should be understood by all police.  Or they are not qualified to be one.

I understand a part of this.  Police routinely engage with criminals.  This has to affect their thinking.  I think (sadly) that this causes them to think that all people they engage with are criminals.  That's really the part that needs to change...

I really think there needs to be a unit with mental professionals that gets called in when someone has an "episode". Cops are not equipped to handle this sort of thing. This system makes no sense.
