Two things jump out from this story.

Moore had been suffering from mental health issues prior to the killings. A social worker requested in September that she be hospitalized for paranoia, as well as visual and auditory hallucinations.

“Aubrianne is keeping her kids home from school because the television told her there would be a school bus accident today,” a social worker wrote in Newaygo County court records obtained by the website. “Aubrianne stays awake at night believing people will break into her home. Aubrianne is not eating believing food is being poisoned.”

Okay - so she is batshit crazy but they still leave her with access to guns!

And two:

The girls’ uncle, Joseph Graham, said they will be remembered as “beautiful angels” whose mother was neglected by doctors. He’s now trying to raise at least $15,000 for funeral costs and related legal matters. As of early Thursday, the online fundraiser had surpassed $6,000.

“If all you can do is pray and pass the word on, we can prevent this from ever happening again,” Graham wrote.

No, asshole.  Praying to your non-existent god won't do shit.  As long as guns are left laying around for nuts to pick up you can count on this happening again before the end of the fucking week.

A Florence man shot his wife and then himself early Wednesday morning in their home, according to the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office.
John VanWezel, 52, shot his wife, Cindy VanWezel, 42, near the 3800 block of North Hohokam Road just outside of Florence, Arizona, just before 2:00 a.m., according to a PCSO news release.
A family member inside the home reported to authorities that there was an argument between a man and his wife. During said argument, the man shot his wife, then himself, PCSO officials said in the release.

Are not lockable gun safes a requirement under US firearms laws? Or did the boyfriend give her a spare key despite
knowing that she was loony tunes? Will the boyfriend be charged with aiding and abetting in the commission of a
crime—that is, omitting to do anything for the purpose of preventing another person to commit a criminal act?

It's a mixed bag. Some states have laws about safe storage. Some don't. Most of the ones that do only affect homes with children. Others only homes with prohibited persons living there. Almost half the states don't have any type of safe storage requirements.

Apparently in Michigan what is required is that FFLs ( licensed gun dealers) post this sign on their premises.
