And here we have it, the trade talks are, at least for now, officially over:

I didn't think the Brits had it in them. I said that, remember? I said I was certain there would be a trade deal this year - I did not think the Brits had it in them to hold out. It's plausible they'll close an agreement, but one that is more limited than what either side wanted.
The UK started at a huge disadvantage (due to starting the Article 50 process), and I always said they'd be in a better negotiating position once the transition period finishes.
The EU still claims that the UK are the ones that "need" a deal more. We'll soon see about that, Ireland will be completely fucked and France, Germany, Denmark, and Netherlands will be hit hard by no deal as well. With no UK-EU FTA signed we'll be able to entirely displace Irish agricultural exports for a number of food items - we produce better quality food, more sustainably, and we do it cheaper. Hell we'll be able to undercut UK producers as well. We can displace Ireland's entire 200,000 ton export per year of beef to the UK for example, this is going to be fantastic for Aussie farmers. Once we get our Australia-UK FTA signed we can displace it permanently, and Ireland will have to look for another market to buy their overpriced food.

I don't blame the EU for telling the UK to fuck off. It sucks for Britons but hey, that's how the vote crumbled out. When you buy the boat, you get the leaks, too.
