Brexit: Seeing Britain’s failure has ‘vaccinated’ other EU countries against Euroscepticism, EU president Tusk says
I'm not so sure. Salvini's neofascist Lega won a landslide victory in Italy, Le Pen got more votes than Macron's party and Orban's Fidesz got more than 50 percent in Hungary. Sure, they're not "leavers" out in the open, since populous demand isn't in their camp right now, but their wish for "reforms" are pretty clear. They want a purely economic union without any political ties.
I agree with Mathilda to some extend.
Yes, three of the four biggest (population wise) EU countres are probematic:
France, Italy: r-w-pops score 30+% and are the single strongest faction
UK: no comment needed
Then there is Hungary and Poland
Otherwise, r-w-pops have been contained somehow, they performed much worse than expexted (and than they themselves annonced). Geerd Wilders in Ned failed completely. Same in Denmark, and in Germany they have been contained to the EU-aveage of some 10%+, fo rnow. I can live with 10%+ lunatics. Could be better, but its something we can work with i think.
The spin here about EU elections is that, essentially, the middle has been evacuated; that centrists lost biggest. I can't say how accurate it is. They're playing up surprising Green numbers in Germany, and of course the right-wing advances in France and Italy.
I don't know how all that shakes out, though.
On hiatus.
