Read about this elsewhere.
Interesting how the turrets were offset. I'd thought for a long time it was for fields of fire, but apparently it was to use space underdeck more efficiently.

Kriegsmarine had a tough time in Norway.

Even the old fort at Oskarsborg took out the Blucher ... with 50-year-old Krupp guns, no less.

I worked with a guy who was aboard the Pensacola off Iwo Jima. They had moved in close to provide fire support for another group and a hidden Jap 6 inch battery opened up on them. He said that most of the armor piercing shells went right through the superstructure without exploding like solid shot in the old days. They lost 20% of the crew killed or wounded.
So a well-sited land battery can get its licks in as the Norweigians proved, too.

The Japanese learned that at Wake Island, too.

Not before 28- and 15-cm gun hits disabled her, starting major fires, reducing boiler capacity, and messing up her steering.

The steering was disabled by shells, boilers however by torps afaik. The torps also were (vintage, WWI) german afaik. Gotta look that up.

The torps were old, too. The commander of the torpedo battery was called out of retirement.
Pretty hard to dodge torpedoes when your steering is verklempt.
