Coronavirus spreads. But don't panic! (topical thread)
My wife is pretty sick. Had her tested at the county testing center for Covid today. Waiting for results. She isn't boosted yet; that's scheduled for later this week.

Omicron is doubling every 2-3 days.
SA data suggests that rate of hospitalisation will spike.
We're going to plan B.

Biontech will release data of first study tomorrow, but founder said its vaccine will be (somewhat) less effective.

Well the population here is >80% vaccinated and it's spreading like it's Feb 2020 again.

Yep, and so is Omicron which is why we went to 'Plan B' restrictions yesterday. I'll be amazed if we aren't in full lockdown by new year. Going through Xmas like this would be for political reasons.

She's feeling better, and we're still waiting for the test results. Pretty fucking useless test without an outcome. They have up to 72 hours, by which time you might be in hospital, the way the course of Covid often goes.

My intuition is she just picked up a bit of bronchitis from walking in the damp / cold the previous couple of days, but I will feel much better armed with a negative test. You an go up to a week with Covid and even improve before taking a sudden sharp left turn and having breathing difficulties.

The reason I doubt it's Covid is that the only close enough contact she's had that she could have contacted it is last weekend -- too recent for it to already be manifesting. Before that, a couple weeks before Thanksgiving. But ... there's always the random encounter in the grocery store or even the walking path.

If these Covid treatments have any legitimacy, early administration is key, and these testing systems are going to have to greatly speed up their game.

ETA: Just got the results: negative :-)

YAY!!
I was hoping it was one of the many other illnesses that have similar symptoms.
I think one of the outcomes of all the social distancing and masking has been far fewer common ailments. That makes us more sensitive to them, and everybody looks askance at any sneeze or sniffle. It sucks being on tiptoes all the time. I agree the tests need to be more responsive to stay on top of the breakthrough infections.

My wife has an immune system like a tank and seldom gets this ill. She will feel something coming on, go to bed early, and be fine the next morning. So between her normal pattern and Covid sort of eliminating even that kind of thing, it was a wee bit of a scare.

I've got that same response, my wife or friends will get sick for a day or two, and I get the same bug and beat it back in 6 hours.
BOOSTERED!!
The third eye is erupting nicely and I hope it is fully functional by morning.

24 hours later I had a slight feverish feel, but that passed quickly. I would have been suspicious if I had no reaction at all. Making antibodies is hard work Smile

Covid-19 isn't a joke. I'm still suffering. Either that or I have a brain tumor. Ever since my bout with covid I've had neurological symptoms. I just feel different. It's hard to explain. My symptoms are: fatigue, neuropathy, muscle twitches, muscle spasms, loss of feeling on my scalp, occasional tachycardia and random internal abdominal pain. They've done pretty much every test except a brain MRI and didn't find shit. Brain CT scan didn't find anything. Of course I've convinced myself I have a brain tumor.

Those sound like side effects I have experienced from some meds. Maybe worth exploring that.
