New "son of god" show on Netflix
Not going to watch it, obviously, just going to make you aware of it.

Messiah

Have started to watch the first episode. It did not pass my ten minute rule, but I will persevere.

I don't necessarily  mind films with a religious theme, it depends: From what I saw of it, I thought Mel Gibson's '"The Passion Of The Christ" was pornographic . I think old Mel has a  few roos loose in his top paddock .

But, enjoyed a film called "The Body".(fiction) It's  about speculation that a dig in Jerusalem possibly finding Jesus' tomb, with bones.

I want to watch "The Messiah" if for no other  reason than some religious types have gotten their knickers all out of focus about it.

The show begins badly, with a mistranslation  of the  word "Messiah" --it only means "anointed one",as in an an anointed king --- The Jewish Messiah is meant to be a warrior king, in the tradition of King David.

(((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((( 9))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

The Body is a 2001 mystery drama-thriller film based on the novel of the same name by Richard Sapir. It stars Antonio Banderas, Olivia Williams, Jason Flemyng, Lillian Lux, John Wood, and Derek Jacobi, and is written and directed by Jonas McCord . It is a joint American-Israeli-German co-production, shot on-location in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.

The plot follows Father Matt Gutierrez (Banderas), a Jesuit priest sent by the Vatican to investigate an archaeologic finding by Dr. Sharon Golban (Williams) which is suspected to be the remains of the body of Jesus Christ. This finding puts Gutierrez's faith and his doubts in constant confrontation with Golban's scientific views, and stirs political tensions between Palestine and Israel, while also shaking the foundations of Christianity itself.

He's the wrong skin tone for america. That alone should be enough to piss them off.

I'll probably give the second episode a glance now that they have worked through the setup - which was murky at best and they are overdoing the subtitles.  We get it.  The Arabs speak arabic.  The jews speak hebrew.  Now you can switch to English, guys.

Have watched 3 episodes.  As far as the subtitles are concerned; looks as if the cast  suitably ethnic. There may not have been a choice.; some of the actors may not speak English .  Regardless, I  have no problems with subtitles I far prefer it to dubbing.

The show  is pretty slow with too many subplots for me. Having the other stories allows them  to stretch it out. I would have liked to have seen it as a tight miniseries .

So far ,the impression I have'(without spoilers) is that the  messiah is a loon and/or a fraud.    Consider

In the end, I think show will pander to its demographic. I don't think that includes me.

 Quite.

Have you noticed how acceptably Jesus-like  this bloke seems ?  None of your squat, swarthy little bloke with a large nose, as Jesus would probably have resembled. . More like a slightly darker version of the typical caucasian Jesus; tall ,slender, with fine features, handsome if you will. He also has the simplicity /vagueness of speech  people seem to like in their holy ones.   Deadpan Coffee Drinker

Everything is "inshAllah "  "as god wills",  to a fatalistic extreme. It's also  suitably simpleminded so his followers can understand and won't blame him when things go tits up.

I sat through the first season.  It never really got off the ground.

I wonder if they will do a season two?  They never seemed to decide what they wanted to do and they sure as hell never explained some of the plot holes they put in it.

Certainly  as they have been recorded.  You can add pedophile to Mohammed.  Angry .

I felt as if it could not make up its mind.  Maybe it would help to binge watch all 5 episodes at once.  The season ending was definitely designed to piss off the religitards.

The synopsis puts me off to start with...

—The female CIA officer embarks on a global high-stakes mission to uncover whether he is a divine entity, or a deceptive con artist.

Common bloody sense would've told her he was a con artist. Let's hope the real-life CIA agents aren't this fucking dim-witted!
I'm a creationist;   I believe that man created God.
