"Christus, from whom the name had its origin, suffered the extreme penalty during the reign of Tiberius at the hands of one of our procurators, Pontius Pilatus, and a most mischievous superstition, thus checked for the moment, again broke out not only in Judaea, the first source of the evil, but even in Rome, where all things hideous and shameful from every part of the world find their centre and become popular."
The resurrection could not have been in play prior to the crucifixion, so the superstition they thought would be "checked" by offing the leader had to be the overall beliefs of the sect or the belief that the leader was the Messiah, or perhaps was god incarnate -- any number of things other than that he was resurrected, as one must first be dead in order to be resurrected.. Whatever "again broke out" clearly pre-existed the execution and therefore, any claimed resurrection.
