So, with Robbie Coltrane's recent stage exit, I thought I'd drag out a couple of old episodes of Cracker. I've never been one for nostalgia but ... meh, it was Halloween. I also wanted to see if my own recolections were making it seem better than it really was.
Daaaayumn. I guess I'd forgotten how intense that show was! When a horrible crime (murder) was shown being committed, it was certainly disturbing. Diabolical excitement & intense struggle seems an appropriate approach to such a scene. However, the psychological tension within each character & the tension between the characters, was always right at the surface, during most of the show. Fuck - it was exhausting. High Drama.
No wonder Coltrane received the BAFTA for Best Actor in three consecutive years 1994, '95, & '96.
Fucking well deserved.
