Binge-half-watched the Netflix series Virgin Creek with my wife today while doing some not-very-demanding stuff for work. It is competently made but nothing terribly special, sort of soap-opera-y but with better writing, acting and production values. Basic plot: Los Angeles nurse practitioner moves to small town northern California to try for a fresh start after a miscarriage and the death of her husband. Quirky rural folk convince her to stay and work for a sexist doctor against her intuition and despite being forced at gunpoint to give health care to people in an illegal pot camp. Hunky ex-Marine catches her eye but things are Complicated. There are sub-plots about a local who turns out to be an FBI fugitive, a woman with postpartum depression who abandons her baby on the doorstep, etc.
Yeah, it's hokey but if you want light entertainment or need to have a shared experience with your spouse, you could do worse.
