I was listening to KCSM, which is an old jazz station oout of the Bay Area, and my mind kind of wandered to my childhood in the mid-80's or so. I liked "smooth jazz", which includes such artists as Kenny G and Dave Grusin (of St. Elsewhere theme fame). Not sure why I got to liking this genre. No one my age liked it., My mother was even more of a rocker than some kids my age. But, it's what I liked.
So, I Google-searched "Is smooth jazz dead?" and came across an interesting article on the history of that genre, and how nowadays it's just not a moneymaker. It's heyday was generations ago. The 80's. My time.
For any of you music buffs, especially in the industry, this is what I was reading: https://jazztimes.com/features/crossing-...jazz-dead/
I decided to look on Spotify and see if there were even playlists for this, and there are. I'm listening to one, now. I find that it's similar to the stuff I'd literally crank up as a kid (Kenny G, Skywalk, Dan Siegel, John Jarvis, etc), but, like most folks, today I'm finding it good for background music as I surf this site. When I rock, it's no longer with Dave Grusin or Exchange, it's with Arcade Fire, old Garbage, Men at Work, the Kinks, The Jesus and Mary Chain, etc.
Odd how much I've changed. Seemingly back into some odd more popular version of who I was growing up.
