I never really cared for those bands for the most part, but I was an odd kid. During my fourth and final high school, a boarding school in a wealthy suburb of Phoenix, there was a jukebox, and I liked "Magic Carpet Ride" and "More Than A Feeling", but other than that, I was a recovering new age/smooth jazz listener who had, in Florida the previous two years, been introduced to They Might Be Giants and Jimmy Buffett. Somehow, in Arizona, I found the Philadelphia rock band the Hooters on my own. I loved "And We Danced".
Only in the past few years have I really taken genuine interest in what was radio-friendly during my teens and tweens (mid-80's to early 90's). If I had sought any of this out, I'd have probably been a mall punk. Some mainstream rock and pop and some alt/punk/etc.
