Good leaders might make a difference if people engaged their intellect at the same time as they were applying their political power, but that's not who the human animal is. I forget who said it, but it's been said that people get the government that they deserve. Considering the common denominator of average human behavior, it's unreasonable to hope or expect better.I don't disagree, but then what are we left with? A sort of passive helplessness that Nothing Can Be Done, because there's too much stupid?
I'm approaching my 67th birthday and I don't have that tooth-and-nail fight in me anymore, especially when so many in the past century have sacrificed so much for ... whatever THIS is.
But you're right, stupidity is definitely in the mix. Right now in my region for example you can hardly see the sun for all the smoke blowing down here from the Quebec wildfires, and there's an air quality warning that basically everyone should stay indoors unless they absolutely MUST go out. Yet people are out on the local golf course today. You can just make them out through the smoke. Hope they're having a great time :-)
