RE: The beauty of this world has made me sad - Mark - 03-22-2019

I was about to write something snarky about tulips and then I remembered some I've seen at a big estate garden in my area called FILOLI.  In my area most fancy tulips must be refrigerated for a while in dormancy and even then they aren't reliably as vigorous the next year.  At Filoli they dig up and discard many tens of thousands of bulbs every year and replace with new ones.  Not a model of sustainability for sure.  Still what they do with them is amazing.

Same here. I find beauty in both actually. Nature is fascinating, yet deadly. From sunsets to tsunamis.

I enjoy a good stroll through a cemetery. Quiet, peaceful. Surrounded by both, life and death.

Photographed this dog rose in bloom today... and found this "psalm" by critically aclaimed, albeit not that well known poet, Paul Celan to go with it...

"No one kneads us again out of earth and clay,
no one incants our dust.
No one.

Blessed art thou, No One.
In thy sight would
we bloom.
In thy
spite.

A Nothing
we were, are now, and ever
shall be, blooming:
the Nothing-, the
No-One’s-Rose."

The Wild Flower's Song

As I wander'd the forest,
The green leaves among,
I heard a wild flower
Singing a song:

"I slept in the Earth
In the silent night,
I murmur'd my fears
And I felt delight.

In the morning I went
As rosy as morn,
To seek for new joy;
But O! met with scorn."
William Blake

I'm in love with these little guys that I kept biking past for days... only to discover just how photogenic they are up close and personal  Heart

“Brute force crushes many plants. Yet the plants rise again. The Pyramids will not last a moment compared with the daisy. And before Buddha or Jesus spoke the nightingale sang, and long after the words of Jesus and Buddha are gone into oblivion the nightingale still will sing. Because it is neither preaching nor teaching nor commanding nor urging. It is just singing. And in the beginning was not a Word, but a chirrup.”

― D. H. Lawrence

We don't have Nightingales here in the US.  I'm not too sure about South America but I suspect it's true for them too.  So the next best thing is video of this legendary bird of fairytales and poetry.

I love them so, so, SO MUCH! They used to sing very close to my window in years past but recently I only get to hear them in the distance... in the middle of the night. Because yeah, they do sing in the middle of the night and it;s the loveliest thing, in the quiet and peace of night, to hear them sing  Heart

I still remember the first time I heard them (they sing during the day too esp. in quieter places) for the first time after I came back from Brazil last year. I was biking past some fields and trees and there it was - the loveliest sound in the world

But first - I'm waiting for the storks to come back home! I was really surprised to learn that there are no storks in Italy - a friend told me she'd only seen them on TV Sad And then I read storks (all of three pairs) were nesting in Britain after 600 years! There is a street in a nearby village where I go biking everyday and there are four nests on one of the streets where I bike (and three on the next one).

Once, they were ploughing a field I was biking past and there were about eight storks walking after the tractor and all over the field inlove

Not my photo but just look at this guy:

[Image: file-20200428-110734-1kleu0o.jpg?ixlib=r...0&fit=clip]

(You're supposed to make a wish when you see a stork Tongue Especially good if it's flying)

Can you maybe tell how excited I am about spring girl blushing

The Southern states across the US have Mockingbirds that sometimes sing in the middle of the night.  They also sing during the day and a lot of people find them annoying but I love them, however we live little too far North and I haven't heard one in many years.  They copy other birds and oddball noises.   In the video this little guy does a perfect car alarm at 2:50 and the sound of a mourning dove taking flight at 10:21.
